The Board of Directors of the Vocational Training Corporation Headed by the Minister of Labor Discusses the Plan of the VTC and the Development of its Institutes
Yesterday, the Board of Directors of the Vocational Training Corporation, headed by the Minister of Labor Youssef Al-Shamali, discussed the VTC plan to develop the vocational training system. The Chairman and Minister of Labor Youssef Al-Shamali stressed the importance of the VTC's role in achieving the visions and aspirations of His Majesty King Abdullah II to support this important sector. He added, "The VTC greatly contributes to qualifying and enabling young people to engage in the local and regional labor market, noting that vocational training is an essential tool in reducing the problem of unemployment among young people".
During the meeting, Al-Shamali stressed the necessity of partnership with the private sector and aligning the outputs of vocational training with the requirements of the labor market, pointing out that an action plan is currently being prepared for youth employment that takes into account all development sectors to enhance the provision of job opportunities for them.
The Minister stressed the importance of achieving complementarity in work with all agencies and institutions whose role is similar to that of the Vocational Training Corporation. To maximize the efficiency and effectiveness of training for the target groups, and achieve the aspirations and hopes of young people in qualifying them and enabling them to engage in the labor market.
Al-Shamali noted the need to include clear Key Performance Indicators for all action plans. Also the need to pay attention to upgrading the skills of trainers in all VTC institutes, pointing to the importance of developing training programs and paying attention to the agriculture and construction sectors, especially in light of the existing cooperation between the VTC and the Jordanian Construction Contractors Association.
Later, the Director General of the Vocational Training Corporation, Engineer Ziad Obeidat, reviewed the achievements of the VTC and its development plan for the years 2020-2021, which included many pillars that aim at developing the Vocational Training Corporation.
Obeidat explained to the Board of Directors the development plan, which included the pillars of developing the training system, and the infrastructure including establishing new workshops, developing programs and specializations, upgrading the technical staff, strengthening partnership with Al-Hussein Technical University through the implementation of the HTU+ project, and introducing (Virtual Reality) in the vocational training system. He also talked about the importance of continuing the e-transformation and moving towards e-training in light of the success of the recent VTC's experience in activating this.
VTC DG stressed the importance of the Occupational Safety and Health for the private sector, promote creativity, leadership and innovation, as well as changing the stereotype of the vocational training, and enhance governance in accordance with international best practices.
Obeidat briefed the Board of Directors on the achievements made in these pillars and the action plan for the next phase, especially bids related to the development and rehabilitation of infrastructure, equipment and tools, in addition to the development of new specializations to keep pace with future occupations and the requirements of the Jordanian labor market.
For his part, the representative of Al-Hussein Technical University / Crown Prince Foundation, Dr. Musa Habib, gave a detailed presentation on the HTU+ project. The Vocational Training Corporation in cooperation and partnership with Al-Hussein Technical University are implementing this project in Hakama institute for males and Irbid institute for females. The German Development Bank (KfW) is funding it.
The Head of the TVET Skills Development Commission, Dr. Qais Al-Safasfa attended the meeting. The Board of Directors decided to approve the development of Marka Tourism Institute and other specialized institutes to be specialized training academies that contribute to the development of the VTC. Stressing the importance of digitization and future occupations in creating new job opportunities for Jordanian youth. .
